Rainy Monday vibes ☔️

When it’s miserable outside, turning up the heat and making yourself as cosy as possible is the only way forward (crying also acceptable).

Make sure to take a little extra care of your skin on days like this - it needs all the hydration when the heating is blasting 🔥

Some things that can help 💦
- drink plenty of water
- get omega 3s from your food and if needed with added supplementation. For bonus points you can try @skinade
- use a hydrating water mist, like Eau Thermale from @avene (keep this at your desk to remind you to use it and layer it on before your moisturiser or when reapplying SPF)
- a sheet mask at the end of the day our to 3 are SOS from @phformula_ireland The Mask from @wow_fusion and @officialmedik8 Ultimate Recovery Biocellulose mask.

- make sure your showers aren’t too scalding hot and only warm water (not hot!) for your precious face.

The higher the SPF the better, right? And your skin is perfectly protected?! Possibly not🥹

So, what does SPF actually mean? It stands for “Sun Protection Factor” and measures how long you can stay in the sun without burning compared to not wearing sunscreen. For example, if you burn in 10 minutes without sunscreen, SPF 30 means you can stay out for 30 times longer (300 minutes) without burning.*

*IF you apply the correct amount, which for most sunscreens is 2 full finger lengths and reapplying every 2 hours*

While SPF is undoubtedly important, it’s just one piece of the sun protection puzzle. The sun emits a range of harmful rays, including UVA, UVB, blue light, and infrared, each causing different types of skin damage. SPF primarily protects against UVB rays, which are responsible for sunburn.

But what about those sneaky UVA rays that penetrate deeper, causing premature aging? Or the environmental damage from free radicals and pollution?

While it’s essential to protect yourself from UVB rays, they only account for 5% of the UV radiation reaching the earth’s surface, and they can be blocked by clouds. UVA rays, on the other hand, are the real culprits when it comes to premature aging and skin damage. These rays can penetrate clouds and glass, and they’re present year-round. Unfortunately, SPF doesn’t measure protection against UVA rays (although it does provide some protection).

So, what should you do? Start your day with an antioxidant serum, applied to clean, dry skin before your sunscreen. Even with SPF don’t forget to wear your sun hat, sun glasses and avoid sitting directly in the sunshine for long periods of times

Remember, your skin deserves the best protection, and that means thinking about more than just SPF.
